The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved another historic milestone on Sunday with the successful launch and deployment of the Chandrayaan-4 mission. The spacecraft has entered lunar orbit and is preparing for what scientists describe as the most complex Indian space mission to date.
Mission Objectives
Chandrayaan-4 aims to establish a permanent research station on the Moon's south polar region, making India only the second country after China to achieve this feat. The mission will also attempt the first-ever drilling operation at the lunar poles to study water ice deposits.
"Today we take another giant leap for India and humanity," said ISRO Chairman S. Somanath at the mission control center in Bengaluru. "This mission represents the culmination of decades of work by thousands of Indian scientists."
